My public speaking horror story

I was a pretty smart kid but when the time came to deliver presentations and show that knowledge: I was terrible.

When I was 15, I spent all week preparing for a speech for English class that was perfect (on paper) but when I stood in front of the class I panicked. With 30 sets of eyeballs on me I froze, like a deer in the headlights

I stumbled, I stuttered, I sweat.

I couldn't even read the words on the page in front of me

and I failed the assignment...

What good was all my knowledge and technical skills in that moment when I was physically unable to present them?

This habit followed me into my university years as a Psychology and English student until one day I decided that I had had enough and decided to face this fear in the most drastic way possible

I got on a stand-up comedy stage

...and my entire life changed.

The following 15 years of my life led me through the stand up comedy scene touring WA, becoming Perth's live morning TV weatherman, working as a professional emcee, becoming a national TV presenter on Channel Nine's Today show and finally a contestant on a global Netflix series.

From being too scared to present in front of a class of 14 year olds to confidently speaking on global television in front of millions of viewers around the world.
